Jon, Kate Gosselin have child custody spat over daughter

Having eight children can cause parents to face considerable challenges in life. When the parents are divorced and do not get along amicably, it may not come as much surprise that child custody issues come about. Florida residents may be interested in such a situation that recently took place between former reality tv personalities Jon and Kate Gosselin.

Though the pair divorced eight years ago, custody issues are apparently still prevalent. A recent report stated that a dispute occurred while at an orthodontist office with one of their sextuplets, who are now 13 years old. Apparently, the parents disagreed over who should have custody of the child, and the situation resulted in police being called to the scene. Authorities described the incident as a verbal domestic dispute.

No arrests were made as a result of the incident, and police stated that it appeared as if both parents had conflicting understandings of their custody arrangements. As a result, authorities referred the dispute to a county district attorney, and that individual stated that the terms of the agreement were vague and offered room for interpretation as to who should have custody. The child involved in the dispute desired to go with her father, and authorities allowed for that to happen.

Child custody agreements are sometimes the only tool that keeps parents from constantly disagreeing over custody. However, as this case shows, if the terms of the agreement do not solidly state who should have custody when, conflicts could easily arise. If Florida parents have faced such instances and hope to avoid them in the future, they may wish to gain information on potentially modifying their arrangements.
